15 Beautiful Engagement Photo Locations in Massachusetts

Massachusetts really has it all. This comprehensive list has everything from parks to beaches  to sleek city views, so whatever your style is, you’ll find an engagement photo location for it here.

The Boston Public Library

The Boston Public Library is an academic’s dream. Grand staircases and beautiful architecture make this space perfect for editorial photos with a romantic twist, and there are so many spots here that you just truly cannot miss! There’s art, golden accents, and even a gorgeous outdoor courtyard that make incredible settings for engagement photos.

If the elegant library feel is for you, here’s what you need to know about taking engagement photos at the Boston Public Library:

  • You don’t have to worry about the best time of the day or the week for your Boston Public Library engagement session, because they schedule engagement photoshoots at 8:00 am on weekdays for $750. No crowds, no logistics-related stress.

  • Any time of year works for engagement photos here, as summer brings beautiful light and winter brings snowy outdoor shots that I can never get enough of.

  • I always recommend wearing something sleek and classy for Boston Public Library engagement photos. You can never go wrong with a simple satin look, like Landon by Jenny Yoo. Pop a long, plaid coat over it for chillier days, throw on a pair of comfortable heels, and you’re set!

  • The library also holds wedding ceremonies, and yeah, they’re as gorgeous and unique as it sounds. You can see my full guide to Boston Public Library elopements here

Jamaica Pond

If waterfront views and a classy, coastal feel are more for you, don’t miss Jamaica Pond. I can never choose my favorite part about taking engagement photos here. The sailboats in the vibrant blue water? The fact that there are dozens of spots that make good photo ops? The fact that it feels like a date because you’re the only two people around?

Seriously, though, Jamaica Pond can hold your engagement photoshoot no matter what your vision for it is. Everything from picnics in the park to coastal summer vibes works here, because it’s truly just a blank slate with some gorgeous views. And my favorite spots? Yeah, they let you put your own spin on them.

If you’re as obsessed as I am, here’s what you need to know to plan your Jamaica Pond engagement photos:

  • If you’re looking for the best time of year for photos here, I can literally never choose between summer and fall. Summer has dreamy golden sunsets that could actually bring tears to my eyes, but the fall colors are incredible in the park. It really comes down to what you want for your photos: a more cozy feel vs New England summer energy.

  • Jamaica Pond is usually always hosting an event on the weekends, so a weekday will always be the best bet to have more of the park to yourself. I always recommend sunrise or sunset, because the lighting is a can’t-miss!

  • When I think of outfits for Jamaica Pond engagement photos, I think of something classy (with pops of blue). Something like the Ellie Nap Dress from Hill House Home would be adorable here.

Charlestown, Boston

Boston is crawling with beautiful neighborhoods, and one of my all-time favorites is Charlestown. Colorful houses and river views make this space so charming, and there’s everything from park locations to city skyline locations here.

I love Charlestown for engagement photos because it’s a lot of walking and exploring, with a lot of me shouting, “Wait! Stop here!” because I found a spot that I just had to capture you two in. It always gives date energy (with me as your third wheel, of course) more than photoshoot energy, and that leads to honest, genuine pictures.

Here’s what you need to know about planning your photos at this Massachusetts engagement photo location:

  • Weekday mornings work best for engagement photos here, because beautiful spaces definitely attract crowds, and mainly on the weekends.

  • Since this is a fully outdoor space, I typically recommend late spring or early summer shoots here. The morning temps are mild that time of year, and I don’t want you guys to freeze during your photos!

  • Charlestown can hold any kind of style, but usually, a more traditional, casual feel is the way to go here! I picture sundresses, jeans and a cute top, and always comfortable shoes since we’ll be walking.

North End, Boston

Another Boston neighborhood that you can’t miss is the North End. This one is more modern and has a ton of vibrant colors, cute doors, little shops and cafes to pop into, and fun textures. I love how natural things feel here. There’s something about you two walking around the city street with a neon sign lighting up behind you or popping into a cafe for espresso martinis that truly feels like you’re just out on the town! No awkward posing or staged moments, just genuine laughter and maybe sharing a lobster roll or two.

If you want tips for planning the smoothest engagement session here, I’ve got you covered:

  • Again, weekday mornings work really well to beat crowds here, but if you’d like to pop into some shops or cafes for pictures there, most places in North End open around noon! I’ll help you figure out the best time to meet based on what kinds of photos you want.

  • The warmer months are better for North End engagement photos since we’ll be primarily outside, and there’s something about the bold colors in the summer that just work extra well.

  • This neighborhood is not the spot for your run-of-the-mill engagement photos, so I always recommend unique outfits! I love adding a pop of color in clothes here, like this lace slip dress from Anthropologie

The Arnold Arboretum

The Arnold Arboretum at Harvard is one of those places that doesn’t feel real. It’s filled with plants and trees everywhere you look, and I’m actually obsessed with how it makes your photos turn out! So if you’re looking for a classy outdoor vibe for your shoot, this is the one.

One thing I love about taking engagement photos at the Arboretum is that you can bring your pup, and I always highly recommend it! It makes for some extra adorable pictures and adds some personality to your gallery.

If you love the Arnold Arboretum as much as I do, see what you need to know about planning your shoot there:

  • One thing to know about the Arboretum… It thrives in the fall. Something about the rich fall colors gives me life and makes your photos turn out so incredible! So, yeah, I always tell my couples to meet me here on a weekday morning during peak fall season, because trust me, you won’t regret it.

  • The fact that this is all outside but still has that elegant academia vibe calls for outfits that match it. I always recommend a long plaid coat or a wool coat over your outfit, because classy style + warmth is the way to go.

Rock Meadow

If you’re someone who wants a more private, secluded feel, don’t pass up Rock Meadow. The wide-open spaces here give us the movement and texture of my dreams, and everything about this space makes it perfect for those classic field engagement photos. The lighting? Obsessed. The tall grass? I can’t get enough!

Here’s everything you need to know to make your Rock Meadow engagement photos super simple to plan:

  • Weekdays are still a yes, but sunsets here are too beautiful to miss. Golden hour creates something really special behind the fields, and the photos are just too romantic.

  • That being said, summer is always my top recommendation for the best time of year for Rock Meadow engagement photos. The sunsets during the summer hit different, and the weather is perfect for us moving around through all the meadows here!

  • Casual outfits work really well here. Jeans and a cute top, a casual dress, and definitely comfy shoes are the way to go.

Castle Rock

Castle Rock is a Massachusetts engagement photo location I love. Right on the coast, it gives us rock formations and light dancing on the water that creates something really, really special. It feels like a totally different world here, and the secluded area gives you room to run on the beach and be totally carefree, so we get some really great candid shots.

If effortless, candid coastal energy is for you, see all the details:

  • Summer here is unmatched. Because glittery water and the light breeze? I love. And your gallery will too.

  • The best time of day to take engagement photos at Castle Rock has to be sunrise. Seeing the sun come up on the coast is already something that feels like pure magic, and in a setting like this, it’s fantastic. The soft lighting for photos is so amazing, and you’ll honestly never forget seeing the sun rise here, trust me.

  • Airy, flowy fabrics are always the way to go for your engagement photoshoot outfits at Castle Rock. I recommend something like the Olsen Maxi Dress from Show Me Your Mumu that gives us movement and texture when it blows in the wind!

Crane Beach

Continuing with beach engagement photo locations in Massachusetts, Crane Beach is one you can’t miss. It has that classic beach feel that we all know and love: wind that blows your hair in just the right way, soft sand, and small waves that add some color, and of course, fun, to your gallery.

If beach engagement photos are calling your name… I get it. Here’s what you need to know about Crane Beach:

  • Summer sunrises, again, are by far the best time to take engagement photos at Crane Beach. I still recommend weekdays to beat the crowds so that we can get in all the movement we want, because trust me, it takes your gallery from basic beach photos to an adorable date feeling.

  • Wear something casual, but elevated. Think a cute white romper or a little sundress that gives you freedom and comfort to move around in, but is still so cute for beach photos!

Salem Willows Park

Willow trees are always going to be something that I LOVE for photos in general, but especially engagement photos. They’re something so romantic and whimsical all on their own, and if you love them as much as I do… Salem Willows Park might be your perfect Massachusetts engagement photo location.

If you want that storybook fairytale feeling for your engagement gallery, yeah, Salem Willows brings it. And the willow trees aren’t the only good part about it, there are also so many wide-open spaces that give us room for movement and are so easy to make your own.

That’s the dream, right? Here’s your quick go-to planning guide for engagement photos here:

  • Fall here brings rich colors and incredible sunsets, but spring brings blooming flowers and soft lighting. So if you’re looking for the best time of year for engagement photos at Salem Willows Park, it’s gotta be one of those two!

  • You’ll basically have the whole park to yourself if you hit it on a weekday morning. And yes, it’s as romantic as it sounds!

  • Sundresses that you can spin in and neutral colors always work really well for Salem Willows. The main priority here is comfort, though, because we’ll be moving around quite a bit.

Beacon Hill, Boston

Beacon Hill is one you’ll see on basically every Massachusetts engagement photo location guide, and for good reason. The cozy, vintage charm is seriously unmatched here! The brownstones and cobblestone streets are just so romantic that it’s really, really hard to pass this one up.

It’s one of those spots that I’ll never get tired of shooting at, because it’s just as gorgeous every single time I go, and I always end up finding new spots that I love even more. Here are all the details you need to know about taking engagement photos at Beacon Hill:

  • Weekday mornings, once again, are the best time to head up here for photos. You’ll beat the crowds and get the perfect lighting between the buildings.

  • Truly, any season works for Beacon Hill engagement photos, but the cozy brown-coded streets match fall energy so well, so that’s usually my top recommendation!

  • Beacon Hill is also so versatile. It can hold any outfit vibe, from this classy Revolve blazer dress to jeans and a cute top, and that’s something I love about it.

Boston Public Garden

If you’re already at Beacon Hill, you’ll want to pop over to Boston Public Garden too. These spots are both gorgeous on their own, but the fact that they’re so close to each other makes them work really well for engagement photo galleries that have two different vibes.

Boston Public Garden has some of the most gorgeous views: bridges, ponds, willow trees, blooming flowers… You name it! I love this one for photo sessions, because it’s so versatile and always reliable.

Here’s what you need to know about planning your Public Garden engagement photos:

  • Truly, any season works here. Winter is at the bottom of my list (mostly because I’m a warm weather girl!), but you can still get some adorable, snowy photos if that’s when you want your session to be.

  • You guessed it… Weekday mornings are the best time to be here!

  • Since the park is so versatile, I always say to wear whatever makes you feel best. Jeans and a blouse? Love. A classy satin dress? Go for it. It’ll work here.

Singing Beach

If I’m honest, it doesn’t take much for a beach to be added to my list of favorite Massachusetts engagement photo locations… But Singing Beach truly has it all. It has a huge shoreline for you to run, dance, and play, plus some rocks that give us that good old New England coastal feel.

Beach engagement photos always turn out to be really easy to plan, but here’s what you need to know:

  • Sunsets on a weekday are prime time for engagement photos at Singing Beach. It stays pretty open, and the sunsets are too good to miss here. Golden hour gives me life for beach engagement sessions!

  • Spring and summer are the best seasons to take your Singing Beach engagement photos. Again, that Massachusetts beach summer energy is too good to pass up.

  • Comfort is key for photos here with all the movement, so casual or flowy outfits + neutral colors are the perfect formula to follow.

Endicott Estate

Endicott Estate is like The Notebook meets Massachusetts charm. This is a wedding venue in Dedham, but it has the perfect classy feel for sweet, romantic engagement photos. One of my favorite parts about this one is that we get the whole property to ourselves, so there’s no need to worry about people around, and you’re, like, 10x more comfortable. And the photos that get us? To die for.

Endicott Estate is a little different from where to plan your engagement photoshoot at, but I’ve got you covered with the details:

  • The estate requires prior written permission for any photoshoots on the property. That’s something I handle for you as your Boston engagement photographer, so don’t worry too much about it!

  • Timing is scheduled by the venue based on what events they have happening, and you’ll have 60 minutes of venue access for that window.

  • Also, note that they may charge a photography fee, so keep that in mind when picking Endicott Estate as your Massachusetts engagement photo location!

Fan Pier Park

Because what better engagement photo backdrop than the Boston skyline?

Seriously, though, Fan Pier Park is one you can’t miss, especially if you love waterfront views and city views. It’s perfect for the modern couple who thrives in the city, but still loves the outdoors and being in nature. So if that sounds like you… Here’s everything to know:

  • Sunset, sunset, sunset. The way the light reflects off the water and the buildings? You can’t miss it. Summer sunsets are so good here, so I’ll always recommend going during the week around that time.

  • A style that’s a little elevated works great here. Blazer dresses, sleek silhouettes… Just something that gives you that modern look that matches the skyline background!

The Esplanade, Boston

Last, but definitely not least, on my list of Massachusetts engagement photo locations is The Esplanade in Boston. It’s another that marries city views with a park feel, and it makes engagement sessions feel really simple.

There are so many photo ops here with your choice of water, trees, and buildings as your background, and I’m obsessed with the variety this location adds to your gallery.

Again, Esplanade engagement photos are really easy, but here’s what you need to know planning-wise:

  • Blooming flowers alone make spring the best time of year for engagement photos at The Esplanade. And when you consider the dreamy lighting and gorgeous greens? Yeah, I can’t.

  • That being said, sunsets here are a 10/10. The way the light reflects on the water is something that lives rent-free in my head, and trust me when I say you’ll want it in your engagement photos.

  • It can hold any style, from ultra-classy to super casual. It’s such a versatile location that everything looks good here!
