4 Maine Wedding Venues for a Luxury + Laidback Celebration
Maine is one of those places where weddings don’t fit in a box. They can be coastal, they can be relaxed, they can be intimate, or they can be something totally different and unique. And that’s one of the reasons I love capturing weddings here so much; weddings always feel completely personal to the couple!
If you’re looking for a Maine wedding venue that feels just like you and has space for a luxury, but laid-back, celebration, see four of my favorites as a Maine wedding photographer. You’ll find everything from barn venues to outdoor venues, plus everything you need to know about each of them.
Why I Love Capturing Weddings at Maine Wedding Venues
As I said… Maine is versatile. And no matter where you’re at in the state, you can pretty much count on getting gorgeous views and a relaxed atmosphere. And when you take an already stunning space and transform it into something that’s a visual representation of who you are, it creates something really special and full of meaning.
Whether Maine is home or you’re planning a Maine destination wedding with guests coming in from all over the place, there’s something so calming about each of these venues that guests really love. I watch it happen all the time: guests walk in, mingle around the ceremony site, sit down, drop their shoulders, and just enjoy the space and people all around them.
You get that same kind of energy. There’s no rushing, no stress, and no wondering where to go next with these Maine wedding venues. And that calm? It translates to the camera.
As a Maine wedding photographer, I love capturing the real, honest moments. And when everyone is thoroughly enjoying themselves, you see it in your gallery.
If that’s the kind of energy you want for you and your guests, check out my wedding experience guide to see how I help that happen.
4 Maine Wedding Venues You Can’t Miss
The Red Barn at Outlook Farm
The Red Barn at Outlook Farm is one of those places where you walk in and immediately feel comfy. Warm lighting, exposed wood, and the kind of hospitality that shows up throughout the WHOLE day make this one easily one of my favorite Maine wedding venues.
This is one of those spaces where you get the entire property to yourself, so it feels like you and your people are in your own little world. You get to wake up right on-site (so transportation chaos? We don’t know her) and take your time getting ready, knowing that all of the events of the day are about to unfold right where you’re at, which is always really special.
There are a few ceremony spots to choose from, including the barn, the gazebo, and the trees, and they each have their own sense of Maine charm that makes ceremonies feel calm and full of love. And no matter which one you choose, the flow to your cocktail hour and then your reception feels really easy. The movement between spaces here gets a 10/10 from me.
From a photography perspective, I’m really obsessed with The Red Barn at Outlook Farm. It has so many vibes all in one place, which gives us a TON of variety in your gallery. It’s perfect for editorial portraits with soft lighting, then dance floor chaos with direct flash later on, plus every moment in between.
Love it as much as I do? Here’s what to know about the Maine wedding venue:
Maximum guest capacity: 200
Location: South Berwick, Maine
All-inclusive packages: Yes, so you get princess treatment to the max.
On-site accommodations: Yes, there are two houses near the property (one being adjacent, one being a mile away) with 25 guest rooms total. They also host wedding weekends!
Indoor and outdoor venues: Yes! You can hold your celebration in the barn or in one of the fields.
Year-round weddings: Yes
Best for: Couples who want to feel taken care of in an atmosphere with rustic charm, or host a full wedding weekend.
Scotland Fields
If you want views… Scotland Fields is for you.
This is an estate wedding venue with wide-open fields and a setting that feels more like a movie scene than real life. You get marsh views, a forest atmosphere, and two historic homes (with space for 26 people) ALL in the same place. And yes, I’m as obsessed as you think I am.
The best part of this venue is that it feels just as good as it looks, if not even better. With fully customizable packages that put your vision at the forefront and space for you and your people to stay on site, you get to feel taken care of all weekend long without having to lift a finger, and that’s the kind of quiet luxury I love for my couples. It looks a lot more like floating around the property sipping on a glass of champagne and a lot less like calling your florist for the third time asking where she is.
Photographing weddings here? Truly one of my all-time favorite things to do. Mainly because of the sunset. You get the BEST golden hour light here for portraits, and being able to run around for those blurry, cinematic shots doesn’t hurt either. When it comes to documentary-style photography, I love to capture you chatting with your people at cocktail hour, guests looking out at the views, and, of course, all the dance party energy.
Here’s what to know about Scotland Fields:
Maximum guest capacity: 220 outside
Location: York, Maine
All-inclusive packages: Yes
On-site accommodations: Yes, for 26
Indoor and outdoor venues: Yes
Year-round weddings: Technically yes, but they do take a limited number of weddings every year, typically May through November
Best for: Couples who want luxury that doesn’t feel stiff, and have beautiful sunset photos high on the priority list. It’s also incredible for wedding weekends.
1888 Wedding Barn
1888 Wedding Barn is exactly what it sounds like: a barn built in 1888 that’s been converted to a Maine wedding venue. And I have to say… It’s really incredible.
This is the kind of place where weddings feel easy to live in. There’s no sort of forced chatter, wonky timelines that leave people wondering where to go next, or crammed areas. It’s a straightforward, understated barn that’s so easy to put your own spin on.
It works really well for the kind of weddings that feel completely natural and organic, and it shows in your gallery. I love capturing weddings here because it’s a ton of authentic smiles, sweet hugs, and maybe even a tear or two that really shows how much the day was felt and lived in.
If that’s the kind of wedding (and gallery) you’re drawn to, here’s what to know about 1888 Wedding Barn:
Maximum guest capacity: 180
Location: Bethel, Maine
All-inclusive packages: Yes
On-site accommodations: Yes, with enough for your wedding party and possibly immediate family.
Indoor and outdoor venues: Yes, an indoor barn and open fields!
Year-round weddings: Yes, but I have to say… Fall weddings here are incredible.
Best for: Couples who value meaning and connection over performance, and want a venue with mountain views that they can make completely their own.
Skyline Farm
Skyline Farm is a Maine wedding venue that’s full of history. It’s an old farm with gorgeous natural scenery, and one of those places where time slows down.
When my couples get married here, there’s so much presence because it’s just you and your people, surrounded by land and open space for miles and miles. It’s laid-back, fully customizable, and feels completely secluded from the rest of the world.
Since you truly do get the entire skyline here, portraits are gorgeous. And the sunsets? Don’t even get me started. Since you get that lived-in, relaxed, natural feeling, documentary-style photography is a great fit for receptions here.
Maximum guest capacity: You’ll have to check with the venue directly to get the most accurate, up-to-date guest count.
Location: North Yarmouth, Maine
All-inclusive packages: No, but it’s still super easy to plan your day at!
On-site accommodations: No, but it’s located conveniently near Portland, which has TONS of hotels.
Indoor and outdoor venues: Just outdoor, but with covered options.
Year-round weddings: Yes
Best for: Intimate weddings or large weddings that feel private and personal, with tons of gorgeous scenery around for miles.
How to Choose the Best Maine Wedding Venue For Your Day
If you’re equally as obsessed with all of these… I get it. Because, honestly… Same.
So, when it comes down to choosing your perfect Maine wedding venue, there are a few things to consider. The most important one, though? How you want your wedding to feel. Here’s the breakdown of wedding venues by energy:
For a relaxed, laid-back wedding: The Red Barn and 1888 Wedding Barn
For a luxury, elevated wedding: Scotland Fields
For a wedding with mountain views: 1888 Wedding Barn and Skyline Farm
For intimate weddings: Skyline Farm
For a wedding weekend: The Red Barn at Outlook Farm or Scotland Fields
Once you've narrowed down the feeling, I'd look at logistics: how many people you're inviting, whether you want everyone staying together, how much you want the venue to handle for you, what the rain plan looks like, and how much traveling you want to do on the actual wedding day. Those things aren't as fun as saving ceremony inspo on Pinterest, but they make a HUGE difference once the day is actually here. And if none of these feel quite right, you might want to start by taking a peek at my wedding photography portfolio to see which weddings give you some inspo.
Questions to Ask Your Maine Wedding Venue
As your super-Type A Maine wedding photographer, I always recommend getting the answers to these questions before you 100% decide on a venue and make things official:
What’s your inclement weather plan?
What all is included in your packages?
What will I need to bring or source from elsewhere?
Are there any hidden fees?
What are your rules for alcohol/bartending?
Are there any decor restrictions?
All of these things can help guide you to the Maine wedding venue that fits you the absolute best.
