The Boston Guide to Estate Wedding Venues for Romantic Wedding Days
Estate weddings are basically the most romantic you can get. I mean, gorgeous architecture, classy decor, a good plan, and a feeling of understated luxury are kind of the ultimate formula for a perfect romantic wedding day, right?
If youβre dreaming of a day like this, youβve probably been looking everywhere for the perfect estate wedding venue thatβs beautiful, easy to plan a wedding at, and feels like you. And thatβs exactly why I made this guide! You can find all of my favorite estate wedding venues near Boston, as a Boston wedding photographer who spends a lot of time at a lot of venues.
Why an Estate Wedding Venue is Perfect for a Wedding That Feels Romantic
Estate wedding venues have their own kind of unique energy. Days at an estate always feel elegant without trying too hard, which is something I really love. Stuffy days are a no-go, but if you still want that classy feel without it feeling overly produced, this is where youβll find that sweet spot.
As far as romantic energy, these venues kind of feel like a wedding scene in a movie. Whether youβre inside of an estate on a grand staircase or outside surrounded by flowers in a gardenβ¦ Itβs romantic, every time.
Those romantic vibes donβt just come from the beauty, though; they come from the flow of the day. And thatβs where a good plan comes in and works for you. Estate wedding venues usually have a timeline that feels really natural and laidback, which means you get more time to slow down and be present with your partner. And more alone time? It always equals more romance.
Thatβs just one of many reasons that I love each of these venues and will recommend them forever!
Why Estate Wedding Venues Photograph So Beautifully
As a cherry-on-top of the romantic energy, estates ALWAYS translate beautifully on-camera. Estate wedding venues bring things like light, architecture, gardens, stunning portrait locations, and timeline flexibility that really affect how your gallery turns out.
Why Estate Weddings Feel So Relaxed
Peaceful energy doesnβt just come out of nowhere. Itβs the fact that thereβs less driving, because everything is in one location. Itβs that you get quieter mornings, because you donβt have to feel rushed. Itβs that thereβs a better flow that gives you more time together. Itβs in the way that guests settle in naturally. And all of that? It makes a day that feels so easy to live in.
Estate Wedding Venues Near Boston That Iβm Obsessed With
Okay, if youβre reading this and automatically thinking, βYep, thatβs the kind of wedding I want,β here are the Boston-area estate wedding venues that you have to check out.
Tupper Manor
Tupper Manor could be a setting in a movie scene, and it would just make sense.
The architecture? Absolutely stunning. The rolling lawns? Cinematic. The way the light hits through the floor-to-ceiling windows? A dream.
Aside from being beautiful, Tupper Manor just has all-around good energy. Itβs extremely charming and has a great feel to every part of a wedding, which is something that really stands out to me. You get to wake up right at the venue (with the natural light waking you up!), start your day with breakfast and coffee from downstairs, and take your time getting ready before the events of the day start.
Once the ceremony starts, the celebration just keeps flowing. There are kisses and cheers and champagne, and next thing you know, youβre on the dance floor inside the manor with your lover, dancing to your favorite songs all night long. And I love that.
As a Boston wedding photographer whoβs a planner herself... Iβm here to say that Tupper Manor makes wedding planning really easy. You can have up to 200 of your people, and they have all-inclusive packages that even let you stay at the venue, which is always a score. If youβre dreaming of a winter wedding, theyβre available here, AND they have indoor options that are stunning for one!
So, if youβre the kind of couple who wants a laidback, super elegant day, this is the one for you (and I recommend reaching out, like, ASAP).
Glen Magna Farms
I have a whole planning guide on Glen Magna Farms, because itβs one of those venues that I just love so much.
If youβre dreaming of more of a cottagecore, garden estate feelβ¦ Youβre gonna love this one. Itβs one that checks every single box!
Glen Magna Farms feels more understated than the other estate wedding venues on this list, but in a way that feels charming and homey. Picture walking through a secret garden with the love of your life, sharing vows that make you feel like youβre worlds away from any other human. Then, receptions under the tent feel like a dream with string lights, good music, and simple decor. The whole day? Itβs basically just magic.
This is another where it fits up to 200 people comfortably, and your day is an actual breeze because of their all-inclusive packages. You can choose to be fully-indoors or fully-outdoors, which is the kind of customization I love for my couples.
So, if youβre a couple that wants a day that feels a little more on the whimsical side than the classy side, Glen Magna Farms is the one.
Elm Banks
When I think of Elm Banks, I picture vintage garden party wedding vibes. With an old, brick-exterior mansion, acres and acres of gardens, and direct sunlight⦠This one makes Pinterest boards come to life.
A part of the day that sticks out here is cocktail hour. Round high-top tables on the lawn make the perfect space for guests to connect while theyβre surrounded by polished lawns and beautiful architecture. And when you have a live band playing, the vibes are immaculate.
Then, they flow really well into an outdoor reception. Each part of the timeline has its own unique spot, and thatβs something that guests really appreciate.
Elm Banks is one thatβs super customizable. You can basically make any wedding fit here, but it works really well for couples with about 300 guests. Itβs another that has all-inclusive package options, and indoor and outdoor options. Basically, you say it, and you get it!
If youβre the type of couple who loves all things vintage and delicate (and that are able to be made fully your own), this is pretty much your soulmate venue.
Long Hill
Long Hill is another one that feels full of class and elegance. It has a gorgeous, classic brick mansion on the property (that makes for a stunning ceremony backdrop!), and gardens that are perfectly polished with vibrant flowers that Iβm so obsessed with.
Wedding days here feel long in the best way. Nothing is ever rushed; thereβs just a natural flow that keeps you feeling present and connected through every part of the day, from your first kiss at your ceremony with your favorite people cheering you on to the toasts at sunset, with the golden light reflecting off their champagne glasses.
One thing I always notice photographing weddings here is how many little pockets there are to step away together for five quiet minutes. Those little breaks almost always end up being some of my favorite photos from the day!
This one is also perfect if you have a smaller wedding at 150 guests or under, and youβre planning your wedding for sometime between May and September (because theyβre not available year-round). This is a fully-outdoor venue, which I love, but they do include a rain-plan in their all-inclusive pricing.
If you two are planning a traditional wedding that feels classy without trying, I 100% recommend reaching out to Long Hill.
Willowdale Estate
For a-weekend-away-with-your-favorite-people vibes, go for Willowdale Estate.
You can see everything you need to know about the venue here, but above all, know that weddings here are fun. Going from getting-ready to ceremony to cocktail hour to reception is smooth, and the venue has a spot for each one that makes your guests say, βOh yeah, this makes perfect sense.β And thatβs one of those little things people don't think about.
Plus, Iβm really obsessed with the old-world look of the venue. It has natural stone, pops of color, and a really unique shape that make this a spot people will remember forever.
You can have an intimate wedding of 125 indoors or a larger one with up to 240 outside, unless youβre getting married in off-season, then you have to stay inside. Their all-inclusive packages make wedding planning feel like youβre not even lifting a finger, which is something Iβm obsessed with for you.
My couples that get married here always love how organic everything feels, from the architecture to the events of the day. So, if thatβs something youβre looking for, youβve found it!
Bradley Estate
Lastly, Bradley Estate is a dream. It reminds me of Long Hill with its brick mansion and luxury gardens, but slightly more laidback.
Ceremonies on the steps of the mansion feel extremely elegant, and cocktail hours in the gardens are basically unforgettable. And donβt even get me started on the tented receptions, because theyβre really beautiful even without a ton of decor!
This might sound random, but, if we're sneaking away for sunset portraits, this is one of my favorite venues because we don't have to walk far to find beautiful light. You aren't disappearing from cocktail hour for 45 minutes; we're usually back before your guests even notice you were gone.
You can read my whole Bradley Estate wedding planning guide for more information, but know that it can hold up to 150-180 guests comfortably, anytime between May and October. You get exclusive use of the venue in their all-inclusive packages, meaning any space inside or outside is all yours!
How to Choose the Right Estate Wedding Venue
If youβre torn because theyβre all, like, perfectβ¦ I totally get it.
This is where you get to narrow it down. Ask yourself questions like:
Which one fits my guest count comfortably?
Are they all available for my preferred wedding date?
Which one has the best rain plan, if I need it?
How does the flow feel at each of them, and does it match my dream day?
Which ones make the most sense for my wedding aesthetic?
Those are the things that not everyone thinks about when theyβre trying to choose their estate wedding venue. Luckily, Iβm by your side for it, and will 100% help you narrow down the option that fits you best!
Ashley Olafsson | Boston Wedding Photographer
At the end of the day, I don't think estate weddings are special because of the architecture.
I think they're special because they naturally create space for the kind of wedding my couples care about most: slow mornings, long dinners, time with family, quiet moments together, and beautiful spaces that never compete with what's actually important. If that's the kind of wedding you're dreaming about, I'd absolutely love to help you plan it! You can inquire right here.
Xoxo,
Ashley
Client love: βWe could not have dreamed of a better photographer for our big day! Not only was Ashley able to capture all of the details that made our wedding so special, but she was also a spectacular hype woman! She was surprisingly efficient at corralling family for portraits, but her warmth allowed everyone to feel so comfortable, and we got so many stunning candids. We will literally cherish these photos for the rest of our lives, and will definitely think of her for future milestones as well!β
